- Expert on how parents, educators and caregivers view the sexuality of the mentally handicapped and on the sterilization of people with mental disabilities.
- Author of "Fighting for Darla" (1994), a book on the case of a severely retarded 15-year-old girl who was sterilized after giving birth.
- Author of "The Politics of Social Class in Secondary School," which explores the effects of class differences on students' education.
