IU Press launches electronic content initiative online

June 18, 2009

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Press has announced the launch of IU Press Online, a robust collection of more than 200 of some of the press's best books and 75 themed journals.

IU Press Online

Offerings will address issues in five subject areas: African Studies, African American and Diaspora Studies; Jewish and Holocaust Studies; Philosophy; and Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies.

Books and journal issues will be added to these libraries on a regular basis, and during the course of the summer, the Press plans to add libraries of its award-winning music and religious studies titles.

Accessible from any Internet-connected computer or from handheld devices such as the iPhone, IU Press Online also will offer a variety of viewing options, fast downloads and page-specific URLs for convenient bookmarking, citing, and sharing (including on Delicious and Digg). IU Press Online will feature fully searchable documents and built-in subscription-based RSS feeds for automatic updates when content is added.

IU Press aims to publish books and journals that make a difference today and will live on into the future. Janet Rabinowitch, director of IU Press, emphasizes that "by giving scholars, libraries, and the general reading public the opportunity to access and read IU Press books and journals online, IU Press Online takes an important step in advancing the Press's mission of extending the intellectual reach of Indiana University throughout the world."
