High-octane string group Barrage opens diverse season at Ogle Center

The 2009-10 season at Indiana University Southeast's Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center features artists who have played on the world's stage, and it will be one of the most diverse seasons ever staged at the center. Series subscriptions are available at special discounted pricing.

The 2009-2010 Ogle season offers three different series:

Barrage

Barrage

The Different Drummer Series

  • This assembly of musical talent from around the world continues the Ogle Center's tradition of bringing eclectic performances of both popular and classical music to the region. The season opens with Barrage, a high-octane string group fresh off a PBS special. Barrage delivers a mix of music, song and dance and is a fusion of cultures and music that has been described as "Stomp" meets "Riverdance."
  • Two-time Grammy nominee Tommy Emmanuel has a professional career that spans four decades and intersects with some of the finest musicians throughout the world.
  • In just five short years, the family ensemble Cherryholmes has been named 2005 IBMA's Entertainers of the Year, nominated for a Grammy, had a No. 1 album and become Grand Ole Opry regulars.
  • The 5 Browns follow. A singular quintet of world-class concert pianists, The 5 Browns perform on five pianos and various ensemble combinations. The quintet was the first group of five siblings ever accepted simultaneously to Julliard, and has been profiled on "Oprah" and "60 Minutes."
  • Vishten will close the Different Drummer Series with a stage show recreating the joy and energy of the "kitchen party," informal community gatherings where all are welcomed to sing, play, and dance. The performance reflects an unabashed Acadian sense of celebration.

Global Village Series: Best In World & Indie Music

  • This new series celebrates the Ogle Center's commitment to diversity. These artists have played on the world's stage, from Morocco to New York. The first performance is by Grammy-nominated songwriters and musical soul mates, Sam & Ruby. The group will surprise audiences with lively and uplifting music that is intimate and inspirational.
  • Moosebutter is a four-man comedy a cappella group featured on Dr. Demento's Basement Tapes.
  • A professional animator by trade, singer Nick Pitera is living proof of the power of the Internet and a bona fide YouTube sensation with more than 27 million views of himself singing both parts to "A Whole New World" from Disney's Aladdin.
  • A self-billed "urban folk and jazz artist," KJ Denhert offers a wonderful mix of acoustic guitars, soulful rhythms and honest vocals.

The Discovery Series

  • This series introduces new and significant rising classical stars from the world-renowned Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and includes Rose Armbrust (viola), Susan Chou (piano) and Danbi Um (violin).
