Public policy journal to be housed in IU's School of Public and Environmental Affairs
Maureen Pirog, professor at the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs and co-director of the Institute for Family and Social Responsibility, has been selected as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, a prestigious scholarly journal in the field of public policy.
Pirog will assume her role officially in July, and the first issue of JPAM under her editorship will be published early in 2005. The publication is the journal of record for the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management, which is based in Washington, D.C., with 2,000 individual members and 85 institutional members.
Pirog will be joined by other SPEA faculty, including professors David Audretsch, Joyce Man and Evan Ringquist as co-editors and David Reingold as managing editor/co-editor. Associate editors from SPEA include professors Matt Auer and Bill MacGregor. Professors Laurence O'Toole of the University of Georgia and Dick Nathan from the State University of New York at Albany complete the roster of co-editors and associate editors for the journal.
Pirog, who has served on the IU faculty since 1983, teaches and studies child poverty with an emphasis on adolescent parenting and child support enforcement. Her work in these areas is highly visible outside academia and her articles on the earnings capabilities of adolescent fathers in early adulthood and state-legislated child support guidelines were both incorporated into federal welfare reform proposals. State legislative and congressional committees frequently refer to her studies of fairness and equity in the determination of amounts of child support awards.
She is the co-director of the Institute for Family and Social Responsibility, a multidisciplinary, multi-campus institute that provides research expertise and technical assistance to state and national social service organizations.
