Longtime IU School of Nursing faculty member honored for mental health advocacy work
Valerie Markley, an assistant professor in the Indiana University School of Nursing who retired earlier this year after 39 years at IU, has received the Heroes for Recovery Award for a mental health professional from Mental Health America of Indiana, Indiana'a largest mental health association. Census Results: Indiana adds 400,000 new residents since 2000
Analysis by the Indiana Business Research Center at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business reveals that Indiana added 403,317 residents since the last census was taken in 2000 -- a 6.6 percent increase. The first results from the 2010 U.S. Census were released today (Dec. 21), and Indiana's official population count was 6,483,802 as of April 1, 2010. Read the complete story.

Results for December 17:
Men's Basketball: Host Indiana scored 24 points to start the game as the Hoosiers held Southern Illinois-Edwardsville scoreless for almost nine minutes to open the game as the Hoosiers rolled to an 88-54 victory on Friday night. Read the game notes.

Women's Basketball: Indiana (6-5) survived a tight one on the road at Florida International (5-6) behind a career-high 21 points from Aulani Sinclair in a 64-60 victory. Read the game notes.

Wrestling: Hoosier Wrestling (7-2) split a pair of matches on Sunday at the 2010 Indiana Duals, picking up a 24-13 victory over Eastern Michigan (3-4) before falling, 26-12, to #24 Missouri (8-4). Read the match notes.

IU locating art and design center in Columbus
Chicagotribune.com, The Republic, WCSI.whiterivernews.com, InsideINdianaBusiness.com, Dec. 20, 17 -- IU President Michael McRobbie says the school wanted to locate the center in Columbus to take advantage of the city's unique architecture and commitment to the arts. Indiana University creates advanced Swahili program
Msnbc.msn.com, Dec. 21 -- Indiana University is creating a new undergraduate program that will help students become fluent in Swahili. The Swahili Flagship program is part of the Language Flagship, a partnership involving the federal government, education and business groups that aims to produce graduates with fluency in languages that help U.S. competitiveness and security.
