FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jan. 28, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Alumni Association today (Jan. 28) announced that $33,000 in scholarships is available through the IU Alumni Association Scholars program for 2011.

To be eligible for one of the 33 $1,000 scholarships, applicants must be the sons or daughters of IU Alumni Association members and be full-time, undergraduate students attending any IU campus.

"The IU Alumni Association is proud to be able to offer support to the children of our members," said Debbie Lemon, deputy executive director of the IUAA. "In its 17 years, the IU Alumni Association Scholars program has provided $278,000 of support to IU students, and through the loyalty of IU alumni, will continue to grow."

Two scholarships are designated for qualifying students from each of IU's eight campuses. The remaining scholarships will be awarded to students on an at-large basis. If there are no applicants from a particular campus, or the applicants do not meet the criteria, that campus's scholarship will be added to the at-large scholarship pool.

The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of financial need and academic achievement as determined by the Office of Student Enrollment Services. Preference will be given to students who have not received a scholarship in prior years.

Revenue from the IU Collegiate License Plate Program funds this scholarship. In 2010, more than 45,000 plates were issued, making the IU plate the most popular collegiate plate in Indiana.

April 1 is the deadline to apply for a scholarship through the IU Alumni Scholars program. Scholarship recipients will be notified by May 13. More information and an online application can be found at https://alumni.indiana.edu/services/scholarships/iuaascholars/.
