FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Feb. 16, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music announces the addition of two live-streamed events that focus on major ensemble performances from the Musical Arts Center stage, through https://music.indiana.edu/iumusiclive.

Wednesday, Feb. 16 (today), at 8 p.m. -- Philharmonic Orchestra, with guest Stephen Smith conducting. The program will include the Alban Berg Concerto for Violin and Orchestra "To the Memory of an Angel," performed by student concerto winner Sarah Saviet; Richard Wagner Prelude to Act I of his opera Lohengrin, and Richard Strauss's tone poem "Tod und Verklärung, Op.24 ("Death and Transfiguration").

Monday, March 7, at 8 p.m. -- The Jazz Ensemble, directed by Brent Wallarab, with guest ensemble New York Standards Quartet.

In addition, the Department of Recording Arts will live-stream the first two performances of the upcoming IU Opera Theater production of Faust by Charles Gounod, guest directed by Tomer Zvulun. Performance dates are Feb. 25 and 26 (8 p.m.).

All streams may be accessed through the IU Music Live! Web site at https://music.indiana.edu/html/iumusiclive.

The streaming project began in November 2007 with a live Internet video stream of Puccini's La Boheme. Since that time, the project has expanded to include most productions of IU Opera and Ballet Theater as well as several other concerts. On April 30, 2010, the Jacobs School streamed the dedication concert of the Seward Organ in Auer Hall.

In addition to the live streams, the Jacobs School makes complete productions of IU Opera and Ballet Theater available for on-demand viewing at the IU Music Live! site. Integrated into the educational program of the Department of Recording Arts, all production is done by students as part of their class work.

Started in 1982, the Jacobs Department of Recording Arts is one of the leading programs in the country. Its 50 students provide all audio and video production support for the Jacobs School's approximately 1,100 performances per year. Alumni have gone onto careers in all areas of the recording and entertainment industry and include record company executives, Grammy winners and gold and platinum record recipients.
