Indiana Memorial Union Board to host Bloomington mayoral debate April 20

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana Union Memorial Union Board is scheduled to host the Democratic mayoral primary debate between incumbent Mark Kruzan and candidate John Hamilton.
The event will take place at the Whittenberger Auditorium in the Indiana University Memorial Union, which can seat up to 400. The debate is scheduled for Wednesday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
IU professor Russell Hanson, a political scientist and author, is moderating this debate between the two Democrats. Hanson's expertise focuses on American liberalism.
The Union Board's Debates and Issues Committee hosted several political functions during this academic year, including a Q-and-A session with Senator Richard Lugar and a panel on the revolutions in the Middle East.
Indiana Public Media debate
The following day, Thursday, April 21, at 8 p.m., Indiana Public Media (WFIU-Radio and WTIU-TV) will broadcast an hour-long debate between the two candidates. It will be streamed live at http://indianapublicmedia.org/. Submit questions for the candidates before the debate by e-mail at email@example.com, on Twitter @INPubMediaNews, or on WTIU's or WFIU's Facebook pages. Participants are encouraged to tweet about the events using the Twitter hashtag #IPMDebate.
Indiana Public Media News Bureau Chief Sara Wittmeyer will moderate. Incumbent Mark Kruzan is running for a third term. Prior to his tenure as mayor, Kruzan spent several years serving in the Indiana General Assembly. Bloomington resident John Hamilton runs a non-profit group and is a former school board member.
