Softball makes NCAA Tournament

The Indiana University softball team (37-15, 17-3 Big Ten) received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday night, where they will take on DePaul at the Columbia, Mo., regional on Friday, May 20 at 5:00 p.m. ET. It is the first postseason appearance for the Hoosiers since the 2006 season. Also playing at the regional with Hoosiers will be the fifth overall seed Missouri and Illinois State.

"We are absolutely thrilled to have Indiana back in the NCAA Tournament," Indiana head coach Michelle Gardner said. "It will be a great opportunity for our team and we look forward to preparing for it this weekend."

The Blue Demons are a familiar foe for the Hoosiers, as the two teams squared off on Feb. 18 in Tampa, Fla., with DePaul coming out on top by a score of 7-3. DePaul also leads the all-time series with the Hoosiers, 7-4.

This will be the seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Hoosiers and the first under head coach Michelle Gardner. For Gardner, it will be her third NCAA Tournament appearance, having led Nevada to a pair of appearances in her six seasons with the Wolfpack, and she has a 2-4 record. Indiana is 11-13 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

  • 5 p.m. - Game One: DePaul vs. Indiana
  • 7:30 p.m. - Game Two: Missouri vs. Illinois State

Saturday, May 21

  • 11:30 a.m. - Gates open
  • 1 p.m. - Game Three: Winner G1 vs. Winner G2
  • 3:30 p.m. - Game Four: Loser G1 vs. Loser G2 (loser eliminated)
  • 6 p.m. - Game Five: Loser G3 vs. Winner G4 (loser eliminated)

Sunday, May 22

  • 12:30 p.m. - Gates open
  • 2 p.m. - Game Six: Winner G3 vs. Winner G5
  • 4 p.m. - Game Seven (if necessary)
