4x100, Hubers and Poore punch tickets to Iowa

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Hoosiers earned three more spots in the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa on the final day of the NCAA East Preliminary Round, bringing its total to 11 entries and 13 individuals. IU got a very impressive performance in the 4x100m relay from Tyler Sult, Kind Butler, Chris Vaughn and Devin Pipkin and then saw Ben Hubers and Andrew Poore punch their tickets in the 5,000.

Sult, Butler, Vaughn and Pipkin provided a lot of excitement for the home crowd, running their best time of the season to win their heat in 39.68. The times is just .06 off the school record. With the win, they earned an automatic spot in the national meet, becoming IU's first national qualifier in the event since 1992. The Hoosiers bettered Mississippi State in their heat by .19 for the win.

Hubers and Poore took fourth and fifth in their heat of the 5,000 meters to earn automatic bids to Des Moines. Hubers finished in 14:08.30 and Poore in 14:09.37 to advance to the NCAA Outdoor meet for the second straight year in the event. For Poore, it was his second-straight day advancing, as he advanced in the steeplechase on Friday.
