IU trustees approve construction of baseball/softball complex
The Indiana University Board of Trustees today (Aug. 18) approved construction of a new baseball and softball complex -- to be located just north of the Mellencamp Pavilion and the Indiana Tennis Center along North Woodlawn Avenue and the 45/46 Bypass on the IU Bloomington campus. The approval of the new facility fulfills a promise made to both programs that new stadiums would be constructed. Read the complete story.

Discoveries that will lead to treatments and cures for blinding eye diseases will be made possible in the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute, the newest building on the Indiana University School of Medicine campus, which will be formally dedicated at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Campus Center. School is nearly back in session at Indiana University's eight campuses throughout the state.

IU Scientist Lands Defense Grant
InsideINdianaBusiness, UPI, HealthNewsDigest, Aug. 17 -- An Indiana University scientist studying human bone growth has received a $2.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense to study a chemical compound with potential to fight osteoporosis and accelerate broken bone healing. Hiroki Yokota, professor of biomedical engineering at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and adjunct professor of anatomy and cell biology at the IU School of Medicine, will investigate the effect of salubrinal -- a chemical compound originally developed to encourage insulin production in individuals with diabetes -- on human bone strength and growth. IU dedicates Glick Eye Institute today
The Indianapolis Star, Aug. 19 -- When Eugene and Marilyn Glick gave the Indiana University School of Medicine $30 million four years ago, they said they hoped to help create one of the world's top 10 eye-care programs. The school will take a step toward that goal today with the unveiling of the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute. Full story.
