Indiana University police are investigating a student's report that he was beaten by three men early Wednesday morning.

An 18-year-old student told police he was assaulted by three men at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Ninth Street and Fess Avenue.

The student reported he had been studying at a friend's and was on his way home. He stated he had not been drinking, IU police Chief Keith Cash stated in a news release. The student reported that the three men "accosted him" and asked for his wallet and cell phone. The student didn't have either.

He reported he was beaten by all three men and left there, lying by some cars, before being found by a friend at 8:30 a.m.

The student received medical treatment for bruises and lacerations to his face, Cash said.

The three suspects were described to police as follows:

A white male, age 18 to 25, with facial hair just under the mouth and above the chin, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, with a heavy build: 195 to 200 pounds and about 6-feet tall.

A white male, age 18 to 25, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, about 170 pounds with a heavy build and about 6 feet tall.

A black male, age 18 to 25, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt embroidered with "Indiana University," weighing 175 to 180 pounds and 6 feet 3 inches tall.

Anyone with any information should contact the IU police at 812-855-4111.

"Those traveling by foot should be aware of their surroundings and remember safety in numbers late at night," Cash advised.
