IU Bloomington Law Day to bring record number of law schools to campus

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct. 18, 2012

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A record 126 law schools will be represented at the annual Indiana University Bloomington Law Day taking place Oct. 24 at the Indiana Memorial Union. The event gives students an opportunity to meet with recruiters and learn about admission requirements.

Hundreds of students are expected at the annual event held by the IU Health Professions and Prelaw Center in partnership with the Midwest Association of Prelaw Advisors. The IU Bloomington Law Day has held the record of the nation's largest law fair for seven years, and organizers anticipate breaking their own record again this year.

Law Day

"IU Bloomington enjoys a reputation as an outstanding prelaw institution," said Mac Francis, Health Professions and Prelaw Center director and prelaw advisor. "Law Day is a unique opportunity for both students and recruiters. It is a learning and motivating experience that most students at other colleges simply cannot have."

The event will include a panel discussion and question-and-answer session with four prominent law school deans from 9 to 10:45 a.m. in Whittenberger Auditorium. The Law School Fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Indiana Memorial Union Tree Suites.

The Law School Admission Council estimates that there are approximately 4,000 prelaw students at IU Bloomington from more than 53 majors. Law Day is offered to help these students prepare for the extremely competitive law school admission process. All students -- from freshmen to alumni -- are encouraged to attend.

The Health Professions and Prelaw Center, a program of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, provides advising and other services for students who want to pursue careers in law, medicine and other health professions.

Students considering careers in these professions must excel academically and plan carefully. The Health Professions and Prelaw Center works closely with IU students throughout their undergraduate years, and with IU alumni, to help them become thoughtful, well-prepared, competitive applicants to professional programs.
