IU to honor Ostroms at IU Auditorium event Monday
October 12, 2012, last update: 10/12 @ 12:38 am

Elinor and Vincent Ostrom, Indiana University professors who died in June, will be honored for their influential research in political science.

Elinor Ostrom died June 12. In 2009, she became the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.

Her husband, Vincent Ostrom, died June 29.

The Ostroms were partners and colleagues for nearly 50 years, researching how democratic governance can affect environmental sustainability. In 1973, they founded what is now the Vincent and Elinor Ostrom Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis, a collaborative research center.

IU will hold a celebration in their honor at 3 p.m. Monday at the IU Auditorium.
