After-school time not a prime time for teen sex

Parents may worry about what their teens are doing after school, but researchers at the IU School of Medicine have found that teenagers do not often use their unsupervised afternoons to have sex. This is the first study to follow teenagers over time to look specifically at the link between time of day and sexual activity, said Dr. J. Dennis Fortenberry, lead author of the study and a professor of adolescent medicine at the IU School of Medicine. The study included 106 teenage girls, ages 14 to 18, who completed questionnaires and kept diaries on their relationships, mood, sexual interest and other issues. Fortenberry and his colleagues found that less than one-third of the sexual encounters the girls reported happened on weekday afternoon.
