Jacobs School of Music faculty member Josh Bell named 'Instrumentalist of the Year'

In the Nov. 19, 2009, issue of Live at IU, we featured stories on IU faculty member Joshua Bell of the Jacobs School of Music recently being named Instrumentalist of the Year by Musical America. Also featured were stories on the Bloomington-based band South Jordan; the Department of Theatre and Drama's presentation of Parenthesis of Blood; the Brown County Playhouse opening its doors to the Little Nashville Express Band in the wake of a devastating fire at the Little Nashville Opry; the encouraging results from a new survey indicating that alcohol abuse is down at the IU Bloomington campus; a volunteer profile about an AmeriCorps volunteer from the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation; and an IUPUI professor's new book, Muslims in America: A Short History, making it to the Publishers Weekly Best Books of 2009 list.   Full Story >>

IU students making a difference: Three ACE volunteers share their stories

In the Nov. 5, 2009, issue of Live at IU, we featured stories on three of IU's ACE volunteers. In addition were stories on Celtic Woman, which appeared at IU Auditorium Nov. 7; an exhibition of children's garments from IU's Sage Collection at the Monroe County History Center; a profile on Miles Taylor, IU's first presidential intern; As You Like It, a play by IU's Department of Theatre and Drama; Die Zauberflöte, an opera by the IU Jacobs School of Music; and talks by local historian David Healey and author Lisa Swedarsky on their new books at IU South Bend.   Full Story >>

In the Oct. 15, 2009, issue of Live at IU, we featured a story about the Jacobs School of Music's homage to violin legend Josef Gingold with performances by Joshua Bell and Jaime Laredo. Groups come together to plan Bloomington Multicultural Expo 2009

In the Oct. 1, 2009, issue of Live at IU, we featured a story about 2009 Bloomington Multicultural Expo, a combined effort between campus multicultural groups, La Casa, the Asian Culture Center and the community's Soul Food Festival. Also featured were stories on Blood Brothers, the season opening play from IU's Department of Theatre and Drama; an IU South Bend professor's bronze relief, which will be featured in two juried exhibitions this year; the Jacobs School of Music fall ballet, which honors the 100th anniversary of Diaghilev's Ballet Russes; Grammy Award-winner Sylvia McNair's regional Emmy Award; the 9th Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta at the IU Outdoor Pool; and a Q-and-A with artist William Itter.   Full Story >>

IU women's basketball star returns for fifth year -- as a volleyball player

Fair trade store with branches in Indy opens in Bloomington

In the Sept. 2, 2009, issue of Live at IU, we featured stories on Bloomington's new fair trade store, Global Gifts; astronaut Kevin Ford's request for IU's "Indiana, Our Indiana" as a wakeup call in honor of his late brother, David C. IU student launches new chapter of PATHE to increase college enrollment among Latinos

In the Aug. 6, 2009, issue of Live at IU, we featured stories on PATHE, an outreach program for precollege Latino students; Jacobs School of Music stories about a student composer winning an award from BMI Foundation and new Jacobs faculty member Jeffrey Smith, an acclaimed organist; IU and Clarian Health partnering to offer free health screenings at the Indiana State Fair; an undergraduate student who started a new student group, Bloomington Sound, that will kick off with a campuswide guitar competition; and an Intensive Freshman Seminar titled "Shakespeare and the Law" that will culminate with a mock trial featuring IU faculty members playing the parts of Hamlet, Macbeth, and other Shakesperean figures.   Full Story >>
