Provost Michael McRobbie names four dean search committees

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael McRobbie today (May 5) announced the formation of search committees for deans in four IU schools: the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation; the School of Continuing Studies; the School of Informatics and the University Graduate School.

School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation:
Daniel Smith, dean of the Kelley School of Business and professor of marketing, will head the 12-person search committee to fill the position of dean of the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. David L. Gallahue currently is dean of the Bloomington school. He will retire from his position within the next academic year. Committee members (with their departments) who have been invited to serve are:

School of Informatics:
Brad Wheeler, acting chief information officer and dean for information technology, IUB, associate vice president for community source initiatives and associate professor of information systems in the Kelley School of Business, will head the search for dean of the School of Informatics. J. Michael Dunn, who will retire within the next academic year, now is dean of the School of Informatics. Degrees in informatics currently are available on the Bloomington, IUPUI and South Bend campuses. Programs on other IU campuses are planned. School of Continuing Studies:
Gerardo Gonzalez, dean of the School of Education, will chair the 10-person search committee for dean of the School of Continuing Studies. Judith B. Wertheim currently is interim dean of the School of Continuing Studies, a system-wide school. Committee members (with their departments) who have been invited to serve are:

University Graduate School:
Sarita Soni, vice provost for research and professor of optometry, will chair the 12-person search committee for dean of the University Graduate School. John T. Slattery vacated the position last fall to become vice dean of research and graduate education at the School of Medicine at the University of Washington. Two associate deans of the IU University Graduate School, Eugene Kintgen, professor of English at IUB, and Sherry Queener, professor of pharmacology at IUPUI, have been serving in an interim role.
