Peter Jacobi, IU professor emeritus in the School of Journalism, has been named the recipient of the 2006 School of Continuing Studies Teaching Excellence Award.

Jacobi, who has developed and taught lifelong learning courses in opera and classical music appreciation for IU Bloomington Continuing Studies since 2001, brings together lectures, music and video excerpts to enlighten and inspire his students. His courses are consistently among the most popular (a 90 percent repeat enrollee rate) that IU Bloomington Continuing Studies offers, and his commitment to excellence in education is evident in the detailed content and vibrant presentation of each of his courses.

"It is no surprise that Professor Jacobi would find a way to continue teaching, even in his retirement," says Ron White, director of IU Bloomington Continuing Studies. "As a retired faculty member in the School of Journalism, a well-known music critic and a prominent figure in the Bloomington arts community, Peter brings not only outstanding credentials to our program, but an extraordinary dedication to lifelong learning. He's most certainly deserving of this award."

The SCS Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes faculty who are not full-time employees of the School of Continuing Studies for excellence in program development and teaching in continuing education programs. Nominations are taken from all eight Indiana University campuses, and the award is given to the person who best meets the criteria for the award.
