FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jan. 31, 2007

WFIU Life Sci

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- WFIU -- Public Radio from Indiana University -- will introduce a new four-part series Life Sciences: Reshaping Your World on Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. The series, which will air every Sunday evening through February, will look at discoveries made in the life sciences and how they are changing the way we live.

Simply defined, life science is the study of life. It brings together the fields of biochemistry, genetics, medical sciences and neuroscience. Life sciences research in IU labs is being used to create technologies, medicines, treatments, new businesses and jobs, and numerous other innovations that make a real difference in our lives.

At IU and across Indiana, doctors, nurses, biologists, chemists, farmers, business people and others are working together on a host of vital projects such as improving MRI scanning, advancing crop technologies, and finding new ways to treat cancer. Over the next two years, Indiana University expects to spend $375.5 million on life sciences research.

Life Sciences: Reshaping Your World is a new series of four one-hour programs that delve into this exciting area of breakthrough technologies. Each program brings together leading figures in the educational and life sciences communities to discuss a single issue in depth.

The series is produced for WFIU by Byron K. Smith, a partner in Duet Productions. The host is Annie Corrigan. More information is available at https://www.wfiu.org/ where you may also listen to an archived version of the program or download a free podcast.
