BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Vice Provost for Enrollment Management Roger J. Thompson today (March 8) announced the appointment of David B. Johnson to the position of associate vice provost in enrollment management at Indiana University. He begins his new duties May 1.

Johnson is currently director of enrollment services and programs at the University of Alabama, a position with responsibility for orientation, testing services, enrollment management research, special recruitment programs and the university day programs. He has been at the University of Alabama for nine years.

Before then, Johnson worked at Troy University in Troy, Alabama, in student and alumni recruitment and at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, in its residential life program and as an instructor.

Thompson said that at IU, Johnson will lead the enrollment management's organization in developing new scholarship programs including recruiting, marketing and programming initiatives for the best and brightest students. Also, his responsibilities will encompass budget and resource planning, human resources, systems design and development, and enrollment research.

Johnson brings to IU broad knowledge and experience in the area of strategic enrollment management and has been a frequent presenter at national and regional conferences around the country, Thompson said. Johnson has published and presented regularly on generation Y, student persistence, student recruitment, data mining, predictive modeling in student recruitment, and other topics related to student services.

"I believe David will make an outstanding contribution to our organization, and I look forward to working with all of our team members to build an enrollment management program at IU that is second to none in the country," Thompson said. "I would also like to recognize and thank the members of our search committee as well as the many members of our enrollment management team who participated in the search and selection process."

"I am extremely excited and deeply humbled to have the opportunity to join Indiana University and become a part of the enrollment management team," Johnson said. "I look forward to helping ensure that students and parents are well informed of the new financial aid initiatives introduced this year, as well as the strong academic foundation at IU."

Johnson holds a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Alabama.
