Jankowski new IU director of public communications

Jane Jankowski, who had served for the past four years as assistant director of public relations for the NCAA, is the new director of public communications for Indiana University.

In that role, she will serve as the primary spokesperson for the university and will also consult on issues management, crisis communications and other public and media relations issues. She will report to William Stephan, vice president for public affairs and government relations.

Jankowski was a primary spokesperson for the NCAA on issues relating to intercollegiate athletics in higher education, and also handled a wide range of tasks in media and government relations. She joined the NCAA when it was based in Kansas City and moved with the organization to Indianapolis in 1999.

"Jane has extensive experience both with the NCAA and in the private sector, and a strong understanding of university issues. She will be an excellent addition to our public relations effort," Stephan said.

Before working for the NCAA, Jankowski was the public affairs manager for AlliedSignal in Kansas City, public affairs officer for the Resolution Trust Company in Kansas City, and a reporter and editor for several newspapers and for the Associated Press.
