Hoosier freshmen smarter than ever

This year's freshmen at Indiana University have the highest test scores and class standings of any class so far, and future in-state students may come with even stronger academic credentials as the school becomes more selective, campus officials said.
Freshmen at Bloomington averaged 1,146 on the reading and math portions of the SAT -- an increase of 25 points over last year -- even as average SAT scores dropped in Indiana and nationwide. That is far above the average score of 1,004 for Indiana's high school class of 2007.
