Culturati champions the arts at Herron

An invitation to a Culturati event. The group brings young professionals together in social situations so they can meet and network with each other and learn more about art.
What's Culturati? Perhaps the best definition comes from the group itself -- Culturati cul•tu•ra•ti (noun): 1. Herron School of Art and Design's young professional group; 2. people who have a passion for the arts; 3. a community of interesting, energetic individuals; 4. a group consisting of young/not-so-young, artists/non-artists, liberals/conservatives and hip/not-so-hip individuals who live in Indianapolis or maybe somewhere else; 5. A group of people living life on the edge of a major breakthrough or the verge of a major breakdown.
Formed in April 2007 by a committee comprised of Herron faculty, staff and community volunteers, Culturati's mission has been to connect young professionals in the central Indiana area to Herron and to visual arts educational experiences in Indianapolis. Presented in collaboration with Indyhub (www.indyhub.org), Culturati's upcoming event on Oct. 30 has an IU Bloomington connection -- the Indianapolis premiere of "Expressive Bodies: Contemporary Art Photography from the Kinsey Institute."
"The positive impact of Culturati is that it brings young professionals together in social situations where they can meet and network with each other," says Trent Spence, Culturati chair. "Also, every Culturati event offers an educational component so members can learn more about art or an artist and support the visual arts in our community."
Hosted at the Herron Galleries at Herron School of Art and Design, the Oct. 30 event features a lecture by Catherine Johnson-Roehr, curator of "Art, Artifacts and Photographs" at The Kinsey Institute, followed by a cocktail reception. The event is free for Culturati members, and $15 for the public. People ages 21 and older are welcome.
Individuals who sign up for a Culturati membership the night of the event will receive a John Mellencamp catalog, created specifically for the fall 2005 Mellencamp Paintings exhibition in the Herron Galleries. Also, new members will be entered to win a one-of-a-kind, signed and framed Mellencamp fine art print. The annual membership fee for an individual is $35.
