Seven alumni awards were presented recently by the Indiana University School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) to distinguished graduates for their personal and professional accomplishments.

The awards were presented by HPER Dean David Gallahue at a special luncheon on campus.

The Mobley International Distinguished Alumni honor was presented to Farouk Abdel-wahab in kinesiology. He is director of the Egyptian Scientific Olympic Center, professor of exercise physiology and former dean of Menia University in Egypt, and recipient of a diploma in 2001 from the International Olympic Committee for his professional accomplishments.

The Endwright Distinguished Alumni Service Award recipients were Elizabeth Majestic in applied health science, Kenneth Mosely in kinesiology and James Garges in recreation and park administration.

Majestic is a top official with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and former deputy director of the Office on Smoking and Health, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. Mosely is chair of the Department of Health and Physical Education at South Carolina State University. His community involvement has included serving as project director for the National Youth Sport Program and Fathers on the Move. Garges is director of the Cincinnati Recreation Commission and an award-winning government recreation director for more than 20 years.

Patty Distinguished Alumni Service Awards were presented in applied health science to Beth Pateman, a faculty member with the University of Hawaii at Manoa and former health education specialist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Tommy Frederick, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Delaware State University and an administrator for minority programs with the National Science Foundation.

A third Patty honor went to Sandra Little in recreation and park administration. She has served as a faculty member and administrator with Illinois State University and is currently director of graduate studies there.
