The Indiana University Jazz Ensemble, led by Professor Patrick Harbison, will come out swinging on Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. This 25-piece ensemble presents sizzling performances of virtually all styles and eras of jazz and continues the legacy of one of the top programs of its kind.

Internationally renowned saxophonist Jamey Aebersold will join the ensemble as a featured alto sax soloist.

The program will include selections such as Jerome Richardson's Groove Merchant, Astor Piazolla's Libertango, Jerome Kern's All the Things You Are, Julian 'Cannonball' Adderley's Del Sasser and Count Basie's Basie's Back, to name only a few.

A Jacobs School of Music alumnus and authority on jazz education and improvisation, Aebersold joins Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker and Louis Armstrong as a member of the International Association of Jazz Educators' Hall of Fame and has developed a series of more than 100 "play-a-long" book and CD sets to aid aspiring jazz musicians. Enabling musicians to practice and improvise with well known jazz personalities at home or in the classroom, this concept has helped to change the practice habits of thousands of musicians around the world.

Aebersold also has directed his Summer Jazz Workshops program for 30 years, bringing together some of the finest players/teachers in jazz with jazz students of all abilities and ages. He received the Performing Artist and Educator Award at the Indiana Governor's Arts Awards last October.

Harbison, who was born and raised in the New Albany area, has recorded extensively as a jazz trumpeter. His recording credits include a 1999 solo debut After All, as well as work with the PsychoAcoustic Orchestra, the Blue Wisp Big Band, and David Baker's 21st Century Bebop Band. He is author of many articles on jazz and trumpet, as well as several books, including Technical Studies for the Modern Trumpet and Twenty Authentic Bebop Solos (Aebersold). He is an active jazz clinician and has been a faculty member of Jamey Aebersold's Summer Jazz Workshops since 1976.

This is the third year of the Moveable Feast of the Arts initiative, which is designed to showcase the university's cultural resources to Hoosier communities and IU campuses across the state. The Moveable Feast of the Arts is an initiative of the IU President's Office, managed by the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and funded by the Lilly Endowment.

The concert is free to all students under 18, as well as IU faculty, staff and alumni. General admission is $5 each. Tickets may be obtained by visiting the Ogle Center box office or calling Ticketmaster at 502-361-3100. For more information, visit https://oglecenter.ius.edu.
