Media advisory: Hoosiers for Higher Education to hold annual Statehouse visit

Hoosiers for Higher Education (HHE) will hold its annual visit to the Indiana Statehouse on Monday (Feb. 10). The headquarters for the event will be the Westin Indianapolis Hotel, 50 S. Capitol Ave.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. in the foyer of the Westin Grand Ballroom. A legislative briefing by Kirk White, HHE director; Judith Palmer, IU vice president and chief financial officer; District 60 Rep. Peggy Welch; and Kathy Smith, assistant director of IU State Relations, will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom. Following the briefing, participants will visit the Statehouse to meet with their legislators.

A luncheon will be held at noon in the Grand Ballroom. David Goodrich, president and CEO of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, will provide a legislative update and two state legislators will receive the Welsh-Bowen Award for service to higher education. Visits with legislators will continue after the luncheon.

Hoosiers for Higher Education is a statewide organization of alumni, students and supporters of Indiana University dedicated to promoting higher education in Indiana. About 350 IU students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends from around the state are expected to attend Monday's event, which is being held to focus attention on the need for adequate higher education funding.
