27 students receive scholarships funded by sale of IU license plates

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Alumni Association Scholars program, now in its 14th year, has awarded 27 scholarships to IU students. Each recipient is the son or daughter of an IUAA member.

Sales of IU license plates have enabled the IU Alumni Association to award 226 $1,000 scholarships in 14 years.

One scholarship is designated for a qualifying applicant from each of IU's eight campuses, and the remaining awards are given on an at-large basis. The $1,000 scholarships are granted based on academic achievement and financial need.

This year's scholarship recipients are:

  • Madeline Anderson, a freshman at IU Bloomington, from South Bend, Ind.
  • Amy Arehart, a junior at IPFW, from Fort Wayne, Ind.
  • Matthew Buehler, a sophomore at IU Bloomington, from Monticello, Ind.
  • John Cantu, a freshman at IU Kokomo, from Converse, Ind.
  • Jacob Carter, a freshman at IU Bloomington, from New Castle, Ind.
  • Scott Catanzaro, a junior at IU Bloomington, from White Lake, Mich.
  • Anne Cavanagh, a freshman at IU Bloomington, from Bloomington, Ind.
  • Daniel Corbin, a freshman at IU Bloomington, from Bloomington, Ind.
  • Lucienne Doler, a freshman at IU Bloomington, from New Buffalo, Mich.
  • Alyssa Dyar, a freshman at IU Bloomington, from Indianapolis
  • Davis Ewbank, a freshman at IU Bloomington, from Dallas, Texas
  • Colin Grose, a freshman at IU Bloomington, from Elkhart, Ind.
  • Paul Grubbs, a freshman at IU Bloomington, from Carmel, Ind.
  • Allison Hamman, a sophomore at IPFW, from Hamilton, Ind.

  • Michelle Nowak, a freshman at IU Bloomington or IU South Bend, from South Bend, Ind.
  • Cassandra Oaks, a junior at IU East, from Richmond, Ind.
  • Danyelle Peebles, a sophomore at IU Kokomo, from Peru, Ind.
  • Kelly Swanson, a junior at IU South Bend, from Mishawaka, Ind.
  • Scott Tunis, a junior at IU Bloomington, from Fairfax, Va.
  • Chad Warkentien, a sophomore at IU Bloomington, from North Judson, Ind.
  • Jordan Weber, a freshman at IU Bloomington, from Northbrook, Ill.

The IUAA Scholars program is supported by fees collected from the sale of IU's collegiate license plate -- the most popular collegiate plate in Indiana. Available to all Indiana residents, plates can be purchased from the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Including this year's scholarships, the IUAA Scholars program has awarded 226 $1,000 scholarships in 14 years. In its history, the IUAA has awarded more than $3.4 million in scholarships to IU students.
