IU South Bend housing wins award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 14, 2008

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Indiana University South Bend's River Crossing Apartments recently were named a runner up in the Dorm of Distinction contest by University Business Magazine.

The eight apartment buildings were completed in July and will open for students beginning Aug. 20.

The competition looked for residences that were able to meet the needs of students including a feeling like home, fostering a sense of community through interior and/or exterior spaces, helping keep students and their belonging safe, and incorporating green elements in an aesthetically pleasing way.

Nominations were accepted for on-campus and off-campus student housing for two- and four-year colleges. The nomination forms asked eight questions about design, building features, "green" features, and the community.

Seventy-six entries were received. Each was evaluated on a point system and the 12 top entries were selected. There were three winners per category - small private institution, medium private, large private, and public institution.

There were four main winners and eight runners up.

The online edition of the magazine, which will be posted later this month, will feature all the schools. Visit https://www.universitybusiness.com.
