Brown named director emeritus of Hudson & Holland Scholars Program

Kevin Brown, professor and Harry T. Ice Faculty Fellow at the Indiana University School of Law—Bloomington, was honored Saturday with the Hudson & Holland Scholars Program Director Emeritus Award.

Brown, who served as director of the program from 2004-2008, received the honor during a ceremony Saturday night at the Indiana Memorial Union.

"Having the privilege of serving as the director of the Hudson & Holland Scholars Program was the single most prestigious honor awarded to me in my academic career," Brown said. "I feel truly honored to be named Director Emeritus of the Program."

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the Hudson & Holland Scholars Program was formed to recruit, retain, and prepare students with outstanding records of academic achievement, strong leadership experience and a commitment to social justice to be future leaders.

Brown said he was honored to lead the program for four years.

"The staff and I built a program at Hudson & Holland during those four years that is better than any other in the nation," he said. "Our students are provided with more high-quality support and opportunities for educational, personal, professional, and emotional growth than any other group of students throughout Indiana University and, I suspect, the country."

Though his new director emeritus title is largely ceremonial, Brown said he will assist the program's new director, Dr. Virginia LeBlanc, in any way he can. Brown said he expects LeBlanc to take the program "to new heights."

Cook Group Inc. and Richard McKaig, vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students at Indiana University—Bloomington, were also honored Saturday for their work with the program.
