IU Trustees set room and board rates for 2009-10 academic year

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 12, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Indiana University Trustees today (Dec. 12) set room and board rates for the 2009-10 academic year at all campuses with student housing. The action was taken at its regularly scheduled business meeting at IUPUI.

At IU Bloomington, where some 11,700 students live in student housing, the room and board rate will move from $7,138 to $7,546, a 5.7 percent increase. This increase is based upon the cost of an air-conditioned, two-bed room with Meal Plan C, the most prevalent room and board rate in the campus housing system.

Patrick Connor, executive director of Residential Programs and Services, said the housing rate increase is a result of increased operating and utility costs. He noted that among Big Ten schools, IU Bloomington this year had the fourth lowest cost for room and board rates.

At IUPUI, which houses almost 1,100 students on campus, room rates for campus apartments will increase 1.3 percent. Rates for Ball Residence Hall will increase by 7.1 to 8.3 percent.

Room rates at IU Southeast will go up 3 percent and at IU South Bend, 4 to 4.8 percent.
