Band conductor Eric Smedley appointed to IU Jacobs School of Music faculty

Joshua Bell, Menahem Pressler among artists to perform at Jacobs School's 'Summer Music' series

As part of the inaugural Indiana University Summer Festival of the Arts, the Jacobs School of Music has assembled a "Summer Music" series of more than 40 free and ticketed events from June 20 through Aug. 10. In all, the series offers an array of world-class concerts featuring orchestra, chamber music, piano, band, percussion, opera, chorus and other special events. Highlights this year include violin virtuoso and Jacobs faculty member Joshua Bell, legendary pianist Distinguished Professor Menahem Pressler and eclectic string trio Time for Three. Full Story >>

Jacobs Department of Bands begins season with concert in memory of Heather Cramer Reu

The Jacobs School of Music Department of Bands begins its season at 8 p.m. tonight in the Musical Arts Center with a program performed by the Wind Ensemble, conducted by Professor Stephen W. Pratt. The concert includes the premiere of Symphony No. 2, "Epitaphs Unwritten" by Kevin Walczyk, dedicated to the memory of Heather Cramer Reu, who was tragically killed in an automobile accident in the summer of 2009. Heather was the daughter of Jacobs Professor Emeritus Ray E. Cramer, who was chair of the Department of Bands. Full Story >>

IU Wind Ensemble featured at band convention

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Wind Ensemble has been invited to perform as the featured ensemble in the Finale Concert at the College Band Directors National Association North Central Division convention on the campus of Illinois State University in Normal, Ill., in February. IU Marching Hundred featured at Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday during Colts game

The Indiana University Marching Hundred will be the first college marching band to perform at the new Lucas Oil Stadium when the Indianapolis Colts play their first regular season game this Sunday (Sept. 7) at 8:15 p.m. on national television. As the leading center for the study of music in the United States, the Indiana University School of Music continues to attract the finest musicians, scholars, and pedagogues in the world, and announces the appointment of mezzo-soprano Marietta Simpson to the Department of Voice, Scott Weiss to the Department of Bands, Ayana Smith to the Department of Musicology, violist Yuval Gotlibovich to the String Department, and Arthur Weisberg to the Woodwind Department.
