Independent filmmaker, distributor Ava DuVernay to screen films, speak at Indiana University

Independent filmmaker Ava DuVernay will visit Indiana University's Bloomington campus this month, where she'll screen seven films and deliver a Jorgensen Guest Filmmaker Lecture. A writer, producer, director and editor who received the best director award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2012, DuVernay is also widely known in independent film circles for the 2011 launch of her film distribution venture, the African American Film Festival Releasing Movement. Art, theater, film highlight IU's annual Summer Festival of the Arts

The third annual Summer Festival of the Arts, which is quickly becoming one of Indiana University's most anticipated summer traditions, begins today. The festival began in 2011 as a way to support the creation of new arts events. It also showcases the many cultural offerings that help make the community such a vibrant arts destination for townies and tourists, as well as those attending the various camps, conferences and workshops held over the summer on the Bloomington campus. IU Cinema new home for Slapsticon, a film festival showcasing silent, early sound comedies


IU Cinema is the new home for "Slapsticon," a four-day festival dedicated to the exhibition of rare silent and early sound film comedy. Created in 2003, the annual festival will be celebrated on the Bloomington campus from Thursday, June 27, to Sunday, June 30, as part of the university's Summer Festival of the Arts. Full Story >>

Brazilian filmmaker's visit to IU Bloomington first stop in U.S. tour

Indiana University Cinema will screen six films by Brazilian filmmaker Nelson Pereira dos Santos, who will also give a free lecture while visiting the Bloomington campus this month. Each year, Themester invites faculty and undergraduate students to explore an idea across the disciplines through a variety of courses and events.
