Greenhouse Gallery Captions
The Jordan Hall Greenhouse was constructed in the 1950s and has since been the home to many plants, including ones in the permanent collection and the latest research of the biology department faculty and students. John Lemon, director of the greenhouse, has worked there for more than 35 years. Along with Lemon, three full-time staff care for IU's luscious collection.
Many species of Amaryllis are part of the greenhouse collection.
Lemon, a long-time greenhouse employee, waters the plants in the greenhouse's permanent collection.
The greenhouse serves as a sanctuary during the winter for graduate painting student Sarah Pearce, who paints at the greenhouse two to three mornings a week.
In addition to basic plant care, Lemon and his staff often replant species to replace ailing plants or expand the collection.
