Last fall, 370 students at Indiana University packed a Beatles class.

"It always fills and has a waiting list," said Glenn Gass, the music professor who teaches "The Music of the Beatles" annually on the Bloomington campus. Not just for music majors, it's a twice-weekly, semester-long course that is taken for credit.

"It counts just like they were taking a Beethoven symphony class," said the 51-year-old Gass, holder of a doctorate in music composition.

While some may merely view the Fab Four as rockin' moptops from England, they represent much more to others. "They're clearly the classical music of rock," Gass assured.

Direct from IU's Jacobs School of Music, the instructor will give a Beatles presentation for local folks on Friday at Indiana University Northwest, Gary.
