IU selects recipients of scholarships honoring memory of Won-Joon Yoon

Indiana University has selected the newest recipients of the Won-Joon Yoon Memorial Scholarship and will honor them today (July 7). The scholarship presentations will be made at a reception hosted by Interim President Gerald Bepko beginning at 4 p.m. in Bryan Hall 215.

The scholarship was established in 1999 to honor the memory of Won-Joon Yoon, an IU Bloomington graduate student from Korea who was the victim of a random act of extremist violence in July of that year. It provides financial support for IU Bloomington students who have exemplified tolerance and understanding across racial and religious lines through service, personal commitment, academic achievement and future potential.

Edward Brantmeier of Wisconsin, a doctoral student in the School of Education who is researching peace education, will receive a $2,000 scholarship. Ana Correia of Portugal, a doctoral student in the School of Education's Department of Instructional Systems Technology, and Christine Lim of the Philippines, an undergraduate student in the Kelley School of Business, will each receive $500 scholarships. Erjen Khamaganova of Russia, a doctoral student in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs and the Department of Political Science, will receive a book prize.
