BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University Bloomington's award-winning School of Fine Arts Gallery can add another accolade to its expanding list.

At the Seventh Annual Bloomington Hospitality Awards -- presented during a reception last Thursday (May 14) at the new Showers Inn -- the gallery was honored as the "2009 Best Art/Entertainment Attraction" in Bloomington. The Bloomington/Monroe County Convention & Visitors Bureau presents the Hospitality Awards each year during National Tourism Week to highlight the local tourism industry.

Other honorees in various categories included Uptown Café, Grant Street Inn, Butler Winery, Bloomington Speedway, Kirkwood Observatory, the IU Department of Astronomy and IU's Little 500 Bicycle Race.

The SoFA Gallery is the region's premier contemporary art space, featuring both traditional and experimental works by significant regional and nationally known artists, as well as by faculty and students within the School of Fine Arts. Exhibits are supplemented with a regular schedule of educational performances, lectures, tours and other programs.

Tourism is the world's largest industry, and a vital part of this area's economy, employing approximately 4,000 people in the Bloomington area. Visitors to Monroe County account for over $250 million in economic impact to the community each year. The Hospitality Awards recognize local attractions that help make Bloomington and Monroe County an appealing place to visit.
