"He has a proven record as an administrator who is profoundly responsive to student needs, and he is clearly driven by a desire to help students succeed. I am delighted to welcome him back to Bloomington."
"I am very pleased and honored to return to my alma mater as the dean of students," said Goldsmith. "Indiana has been a very important part of my life. I look forward to returning to provide leadership for student affairs at the university. "

After graduating from the American University with Master of Education degree in student personnel, he returned to IU to pursue an Doctor of Education degree in higher education administration.

Goldsmith will replace Dick McKaig, who is retiring after a 38-year career at Indiana University. "Dick has been a wonderful advocate for Bloomington students for nearly four decades," said Hanson. "The entire campus is immensely grateful to him for his outstanding service, his wisdom and his dedication."
Goldsmith was one of four finalists for the position selected by a search committee chaired by Hutton Honors College Dean Matt Auer. The committee included students Andrew Dahlen, Luke Fields, A.D. "The committee members performed an invaluable service for the campus and I thank them for their exceptional work," Hanson said.
