Health policy expert to speak at Indiana University

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Recent health reform legislation could dramatically change public and private health policies, not only altering how health care is financed and delivered but potentially affect personal choices about our own health behaviors.
Wendy Everett, president of the New England Healthcare Institute and a leading U.S. expert on health policy, will discuss critical elements of health care reform and their effects on individuals and society next week at Indiana University Bloomington.

Everett will speak on "Health and Health Care 2020: Back to the Future?" at 4 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 6) in the Maurer School of Law Moot Courtroom 123. The Branigin Lecture is sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Study, which is hosting Everett's visit to Indiana University.
Everett has dedicated her career to improving the quality and affordability of health care across the United States, supporting innovative approaches to stem rising health care costs and inefficiencies. She was chosen to oversee the formation of the New England Healthcare Institute (NEHI) in 2002 as its first president. Along with NEHI founders, her vision was to create an independent, research-based organization, made up of diverse members of the health care industry, to address urgent health policy issues.
Under her leadership, NEHI has produced ground-breaking research on medical innovation, patient safety, health care spending and health care information technology, and has influenced national policy changes.
Everett previously held positions at the University of California, San Francisco, Medical Center and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She has directed national demonstration programs for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Kaiser Family Foundations. In the mid-1990s, she was director of the Institute for the Future.
She earned two Bachelor of Science degrees and holds master's and doctoral degrees in health policy and management from Harvard University.
Everett will also lecture at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. She will speak on "Thinking Outside the Pillbox: Improving Patient Medication Adherence" at noon Monday (Oct. 4) in the Riley Outpatient Center Auditorium.
