FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 9, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- While we are all very concerned about the fate of missing IU student Lauren Spierer, it is important to know that there is no elevated risk to the general public or to the IU Bloomington campus community as a result of her disappearance and the ongoing investigation.

The IU Bloomington campus is operating as normal, and all freshman orientation and summer camps are still proceeding as planned. As always, camp personnel will closely monitor participants in camps held on the IU Bloomington campus, especially those participants who are under the age of 18.

The security of all Indiana University students, faculty, staff, and visitors is IU's top priority, and we will do what we can to maximize their safety. For general information and alerts related to safety and security at Indiana University, visit Protect IU (https://protect.iu.edu).

Individuals also need to be vigilant, be aware of their surroundings, and be informed as to what they can do to increase their own safety. Parents can help their children learn "Crime Prevention and Street Sense Tips" (https://protect.iu.edu/police/crime-prevention) from the IU Police Department to be better prepared when out in public anywhere.

Our thoughts continue to be with Lauren Spierer, her family, and her friends. Information specific to her disappearance can be found here on our site at: https://protect.iu.edu/lauren.
