The fire occurred on the roof of the Ora L. Wildermuth Intramural Center, which was closed for the summer for roof replacement. Firefighters arrived promptly, and a small number of people working in the adjacent HPER Building were evacuated as a precaution. No one was reported injured.

University officials are currently working with the Bloomington Fire Department to determine the source of the fire. They will also begin assessing the damage and the timetable for repair as soon as possible.

The fire was reported at 10:10 a.m. At approximately 12:30 p.m., firefighters reported that the fire had been extinguished.

The HPER Building, located at 1025 E. Seventh St., was built in 1917. The Wildermuth Intramural Center (formerly called the IU Fieldhouse) opened in 1928 and houses a number of recreational facilities.
