Buxbaum named interim dean of IU Maurer School of Law

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dec. 9, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Board of Trustees of Indiana University has appointed Hannah L. Buxbaum as interim dean of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, effective Feb. 1.

Hannah Buxbaum

Buxbaum is currently executive associate dean for academic affairs and John E. Schiller chair in legal ethics at the Maurer School of Law. Her appointment follows the announcement on Tuesday, Dec. 6, that the law school's current dean, Lauren K. Robel, has been named interim provost for the IU Bloomington campus. Robel succeeds Karen Hanson, who will leave the university Jan. 31 to accept a role as senior vice president and provost at the University of Minnesota.

"Having worked closely with Hannah for 15 years, I am confident that she will be a magnificent interim dean," Robel said. "Her experience as a practitioner, professor and administrator will serve her well in this new role."

"I am honored by this appointment and look forward to working with faculty, students and alumni during Lauren's interim assignment," Buxbaum said.

Buxbaum joined the Maurer faculty in 1997 and was named professor of law in 2003. She served as associate dean for research from 2007 to 2009 and was appointed executive associate dean in 2009. In 2010, she was named the John E. Schiller chair in legal ethics. She has been recognized five times by students and colleagues for excellence in teaching. She holds B.A. and J.D. degrees from Cornell University and an LL.M. from Ruprecht-Karls-Universität, Heidelberg.
