Little 500 to again be nationally televised in HDTV by HDNet

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TUESDAY, APRIL 12, 2OO5

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The high-definition network HDNet will present for the third consecutive year live television coverage of the Little 500 bicycle races at Indiana University in Bloomington. HDNet will broadcast both the 18th annual Women's Little 500 on Friday (April 15) and the 55th annual Men's Little 500 on Saturday (April 16) at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

The Little 500 is the biggest intramural event on the IU Bloomington campus and the largest collegiate cycling event in the nation. Steeped in tradition and high on excitement, this premier race and the surrounding week of activities have earned the reputation of being the best of its kind anywhere in the world. It first gained international exposure through the 1979 film Breaking Away, which was filmed in Bloomington and went on to win five Academy Award nominations and the Oscar for best screenplay, written by the late IU alumnus Steve Tesich.

More than 20,000 people attend the men's and women's races every year. The broadcast of the women's race will begin at 4 p.m CDT on Friday, and the telecast of the men's race will begin at 2 p.m CDT on Saturday. HDNet is available on Adelphia Communications, Charter Communications, DIRECTV, DISH Network, Insight, Mediacom, Time Warner Cable and more than 40 NCTC cable affiliate companies.

Co-founded by Dallas Mavericks owner and IU alumnus Mark Cuban and Phil Garvin of Colorado Studios, HDNet is the leader in high-definition broadcasting, broadcasting the race in 1080i high-definition.
