Art Lindeman to head IU Student Enrollment Services

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MAY 24, 2005

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Art Lindeman has been named associate vice president and director of Student Enrollment Services at Indiana University. The appointment begins June 1 and is subject to the approval of the IU Board of Trustees. Lindeman will report to Kenneth Gros Louis, senior vice president for academic affairs and chancellor for the Bloomington campus.

"Art has been the transitional director and has done a splendid job in collating the report of external consultants and then working with one of them to come up with a plan that provides robust student services in a centralized manner, but also gives significant responsibilities to each campus," Gros Louis said. "This seems to me to be the ideal mix between centralization and decentralization while maintaining a high level of student services."

Student Enrollment Services was created as part of the Student Information System, which was completed prior to the start of the 2004 fall semester. SIS is the most recent component of the university's efforts to modernize all of its administrative and enterprise resource planning systems. The SIS project provided new PeopleSoft systems for academic advisers, admissions, bursars, financial aid and student records on all IU campuses.

"Now, SES will bring campus executives, business analysts and system analysts together to interact on the core student service activities now in place with the new Student Information System," Lindeman said. "With SIS now in place, the SES organization enters a new phase and is being developed to coordinate the overall planning and management for the new system."

Lindeman has served as assistant vice president for financial management services, which is the university's central accounting, contract and grant administration, and payroll department since 1990. He also directed the development of the university's financial information system in the mid-1990s after joining the university in 1981.

He replaces Don Hossler of the Bloomington campus and Becky Porter of IUPUI, who served Student Enrollment Services during the university's installation of the Student Information System.
