BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Jennifer Crittenden, an Indiana University alumna and author of "The Discreet Guide for Executive Women: How to Work Well with Men (and Other Difficulties)," will keynote the annual Women in Business Night at IU Bloomington on Thursday, April 19.

The Discreet Guide for Executive Women

Crittenden earned a Bachelor of Arts in linguistics with high distinction from the IU College of Arts and Sciences in 1981 and a Master of Business Administration in finance and management information system from the Kelley School of Business in 1988.

She will be joined on an alumni panel discussion by Cathy Langham of Indianapolis, Ind., president and owner of Langham Logistics; Sandra Osladil of Boston, marketing manager at GE Capital Retail Finance; and Marietta Stalcup of Westfield, Ind., founder and president of Lead deNovo.

Due to popular demand, registration for the event is now closed. The event is taking place in the Tudor Room of the Indiana Memorial Union. The Kelley Association of Women MBAs and Kelley School of Business Alumni Association are presenting the event.

Growing up, Crittenden may have seemed to be an unlikely candidate to graduate with an MBA from the Kelley School of Business and enter corporate America. She was raised on a farm in southern Indiana by an idealist professor and a feminist homemaker, earned an undergraduate degree from IU in linguistics, and studied language and film in Europe.

To her surprise, she excelled in the business world and spent 20 years building a scintillating career, rising from financial analyst to chief financial officer, working for big pharmaceutical and biotech companies in the U.S., Europe and the UK.

She saw other women enter this male-dominated world and stumble, lose their upward mobility, get discouraged and drop out. She was disappointed to find herself too often the only woman in the boardroom and the executive suite. A devoted manager, she mentored a number of young women and learned that honest, straight talk was the best way to communicate the do's and don'ts of working with men.

In her new book, she hopes she has extended a helping hand to all aspiring businesswomen.

Other speakers:

Cathy Langham

As co-founder of Langham Logistics, Langham focuses on business development, fast-growth strategy and critical industry issues such as cargo security. The 1980 graduate of the Kelley School provides more than 20 years of logistics expertise to business leaders in a wide spectrum of industries, including pharmaceutical, food and beverage, automotive and other industries with complex supply chains.

Before launching the company that bears her family name, she was a two-time franchise owner in the transportation industry. Langham's visibility as CEO of a fast-growing woman-owned business enterprise earned her firm a visit from President George W. Bush. In 2005, she accepted a role on the Indiana Economic Development Corp. at the invitation of Gov. Mitch Daniels.

Langham also serves on the boards of directors of HHGregg, The Finish Line and Celadon Trucking, and was vice chair of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2012 Super Bowl and 2012 Super Cure in Indianapolis. She has been inducted into the Kelley School Hall of Honor as a Distinguished Entrepreneur and received the Distinguished Entrepreneur-In-Residence Award from the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Sandra Osladil

After earning a degree from Michigan State University, Osladil learned the ins and outs of consumer banking and sales while in branch management at Standard Federal Bank and Republic Bank before deciding it was time to get her MBA.

Upon graduating with an MBA from Kelley in 2007, Osladil headed to General Electric and joined the Experienced Commercial Leadership Program, where her projects included product marketing in financial services and designing a sales compensation program for GE Oil & Gas.

She accepted an opportunity to work for NBCUniversal in New York City, where she served on the integration team for The Weather Channel and was instrumental in building new business verticals for NBC News.

Recently relocated to the Boston area, Osladil returned to her banking roots, taking the position of marketing manager at GE Capital Retail Finance, where she is responsible for driving growth of the TJX credit card portfolio. She has been active with the Forte Foundation and the Kelley Alumni Leadership Network and in recruiting prospective students.

Marietta Stalcup

A versatile, dynamic and creative pharmaceutical industry leader, Stalcup has expertise in sales, clinical trials operations management and medical liaison management.

With more than 21 years of experience at Eli Lilly, the 2009 Kelley MBA graduate's accomplishments include partnering with human resources to develop an accountability model that was implemented across all medical liaison teams, developing and implementing recruiting strategy that led to change in hiring practices that is now standard within medical science liaison function.

Stalcup also earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry at North Carolina State University and is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt. She started Lead deNovo, a professional development and leadership training company, in January to fulfill her passion of maximizing the personal and professional goals of individuals and businesses. At the Kelley School, Marietta sits on the IUPUI MBA Women's Advisory Board.
