Statement on passing of Fred Eichhorn Jr.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie issued the following statement on the passing today of former IU trustee Fred Eichhorn Jr.
McRobbie's statement:
"All of us at Indiana University are deeply saddened by the passing of distinguished alumnus, civic leader and longtime IU trustee Fred Eichhorn Jr.
"During Fred's 15 years as a member of the board, which included tenures as president, vice president and chairs of several committees, he served the university with commitment, distinction and honor, devoting countless hours to addressing the challenges facing the institution he so cherished.
"Fred was mindful of protecting and preserving IU's core missions, its longstanding traditions and the special role it plays in preparing students for successful and fulfilling lives and careers. At the same time, he demonstrated an unyielding commitment to the university's continued growth and a future of institutional excellence.
"During a time marked by major transformation at the university, Fred could always be relied upon for his thoughtful leadership,wise counsel and experienced insights, all of which reflected a genuine desire to always do what was right for IU. He will be remembered as a model representative of Indiana University and a shining example of the tremendous impact of one individual."
