U.S. Sen. Lugar to visit IU Bloomington on Sunday

EDITORS: Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) will be opening the International Studies Summer Institutes and the International Agricultural Education Summer Institute at Indiana University Bloomington on Sunday (July 7).

Lugar will begin his remarks at 5:30 p.m. in the second floor formal lounge at McNutt Residence Hall on North Fee Lane. He will be available to talk with reporters for a few minutes after his presentation, which will last about 30 minutes.

The Center for the Study of Global Change at IU annually organizes summer residential institutes for high school students and teachers. Participants join the institutes' faculty, IU professors and nationally prominent speakers to explore diverse topics such as global environmental change, international trade, populations at risk and conflict resolution.

The center, along with Purdue University's School of Agriculture, the Indiana Future Farmers of America organization and IU's Center for International Business Education and Research, has a residential, one-week summer institute on international agriculture and global food security. The objective of this program is to introduce critical international agricultural issues to high school agriculture teachers and students.

For more information about the institutes, contact Katherine Gold at the Center for the Study of Global Change, 812-855-0756.
