Bloomington Area Residents Asked to Comment on Proposed Healthcare Reforms

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Nov. 1, 2007

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Residents in the Bloomington area can express their opinions about draft healthcare reforms in Indiana during a Healthcare Reform Options Listening Tour public forum.

The listening tour, conducted by Indiana University faculty experts, will be held at IU Bloomington on Nov. 8, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The forum will be held in the Dogwood Room, Mezzanine Level, IU Memorial Union, 900 E. 7th St.

Among the proposed reforms are:

  • Hoosiers will take an active role in preserving their own health and well-being and work collaboratively with their healthcare providers to address health challenges
  • Hoosiers will have universal access; universal insurance coverage; effective access to all aspects of the healthcare system regardless of income class, cultural identity, or residence
  • Disease prevention and health promotion will be the primary foci of both the delivery and public health systems
  • All residents will have a medical/healthcare home, which will be the source of primary care, disease management, and care coordination

The recommendations were developed by the IU experts at the request of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA). The IU experts include representatives from the IU Schools of Medicine, Law and Public and Environmental Affairs. Earlier this year, the faculty experts conducted town hall forums across the state to listen to the views of Hoosiers on a wide range of health care issues.

Following the listening tour, which ends Dec. 6, the experts will work with FSSA to develop a legislative plan for proposed healthcare reforms.
