Massey named associate vice provost at IU Bloomington

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 23, 2009

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs announced today (June 23) the appointment of Anne P. Massey as associate vice provost for faculty and academic affairs at IU Bloomington.

Massey is the dean's research professor and professor of information systems at the IU Kelley School of Business. Her appointment takes effect immediately.

As associate vice provost, Massey will assume responsibilities including oversight for campus-level promotion reviews, faculty development workshops and revisions of academic policies. In addition, drawing on her experience in the field of information technology, Massey will help develop FAR -- the online Faculty Annual Report system expected to be released later this year.

"I'm so pleased to have Anne Massey join our team in Bryan Hall," said Vice Provost Tom Gieryn. "She brings considerable administrative experience to the job, and has a firm commitment to core academic values that govern decision-making on the Bloomington campus. I especially look forward to working with Anne on projects that draw on her considerable skills in the area of information management. "

"Professor Massey is an experienced academic leader who will bring great skill and imagination to her new responsibilities in the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs," said Provost and Executive Vice President Karen Hanson. "I look forward to working with her as the office carries out its essential functions and engages in planning for the future."

"I am delighted to work with Vice Provost Gieryn and all of our colleagues at Indiana University on issues of critical importance to faculty, including academic policies and governance," Massey said. "I also feel very privileged to be involved with initiatives to support and enhance a culture of excellence relative to discovery, learning and engagement on this campus. "

Massey has been executive director of Information Management Affiliates, an industry-university cooperative, since 2007, and served as chair of the Information Systems department from 2003-2006. She has been a member of the Kelley School of Business faculty since 1996. Massey also participated in IU's Leadership Development program and the CIC's Academic Leadership Fellows program.

She received her doctorate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in decision sciences and engineering systems. Her research interests focus on technology-based service innovation, computer-mediated collaborative work, and IT implementation and acceptance. Presently, she is working on a trans-disciplinary research study funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, with IU faculty representing exercise science and new media.

Massey has served as an associate editor for many journals, including currently Decision Sciences Journal and Information Systems Research. She was also recently named senior editor for AIS' Transactions on HCI. She has published numerous articles in leading journals including MIS Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Decision Sciences, and the Journal of Management Information Systems, among others.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs was created as part of a restructuring of campus administration that placed the broad functions of the former dean of the faculties under the leadership of two vice provosts (Sonya Stephens serves as vice provost for undergraduate education). The office oversees programs and initiatives that work to assemble a faculty of world-class scholars, scientists, artists and librarians at IU Bloomington.
