Jack Pincus to boost ARTI technology transfer

Jack Pincus, a renowned expert on biotechnology and business development, will join the Advanced Research and Technology Institute of Indiana University as the incubator's new vice president for technology transfer. Pincus will assume his new position full-time in January 2004.

Among his many duties, Pincus will manage patenting and licensing of new technologies and oversee the evaluation of intellectual property created by Indiana University faculty and staff. He will help transfer those technologies to businesses in Indiana and abroad. Pincus will also be responsible for ensuring institutional compliance with state and federal technology transfer requirements.

Inventions handled by the Advanced Research and Technology Institute and its Indiana University Emerging Technologies Center include new drug compounds, medical devices, medical methods and discoveries, and other useful concepts and ideas emanating from any of IU's campuses.

"I am pleased Jack has accepted the position," said Mark Long, ARTI president and CEO. "He is a registered U.S. patent agent, and he is considered by many in the Licensing Executive Society and in the Association of University Technology Managers to be an authority on university intellectual property, copyrights and software registration."

The Advanced Research and Technology Institute, an IU affiliate, is a private, not-for-profit agent for IU, charged with increasing the university's collaboration with the private sector. The Indiana University Emerging Technologies Center assists entrepreneurs with business formation, development and maturation by providing facilities, amenities, support and networking opportunities.
