Savage is an openly gay author and journalist who became popular through his sex advice column, "Savage Love," in Seattle's alternative weekly newspaper The Stranger. He is author of four novels, Savage Love: Straight Answers from America's Most Popular Sex Columnist; The Kid, Skipping Towards Gomarrah: The Seven Deadly Sins and Pursuit of Happiness in America; The Commitment: Love, Sex, Marriage, and my Family; and Things I've Learned from Women Who've Dumped Me. Savage is now an editor of The Stanger and is also an active theater director, using the stage name "Keenan Hollahan."

Savage, who grew up in a strict, Roman Catholic home in Chicago, has been featured on CNN and "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" for his controversial and often humorous views on politics and religion regarding gay marriage, love and sexuality in America. Savage's weekly podcast, "Savage Lovecast," is available on iTunes.

"SEXploration at IU" is an annual weeklong series of events that offer IU students information about sexuality-related issues in a fun, interactive and positive way. The event is sponsored by the IU Health Center's Health and Wellness Department.

"Dan Savage is a widely followed 'sexpert' who will bring an invaluable perspective to issues surrounding sex, culture and current world issues," said Caitlin Van Kooten, director of Union Board lectures.

The Indiana Memorial Union Board is IU's largest student programming organization and also serves as the governing body of the Indiana Memorial Union. Founded in 1909 by John Whittenberger, Union Board is currently celebrating its Centennial year, a year marked by reverence for tradition and commitment for innovation.
